AKL Screens

In 2024, Auckland Airport revealed an updated brand identity rooted in connecting, uplifting, and growing. Developed by Designworks as part of AKL's new branding, WorkGroup was tasked with bringing this new identity to life in motion, translating the brand's core ideas into an abstract reveal animation for the TRENZ conference, then extending it into a permanent ambient piece for the airport's departure screens.

For TRENZ, we built an abstract reveal that took the AKL letterforms and broke them down into their component shapes, overlapping and moving together in ways that echoed the brand's key messaging. Played throughout the talk, the animation worked as an ambient companion to the story being told on stage, giving the new look room to breathe while reinforcing what it meant for the company.

That same visual language was then adapted for the airport's departure entrance, stretching the piece across four screens. The forms shift and breathe slowly, with the AKL letterforms occasionally emerging from the movement, and the colour palette drifting through gradients drawn from the sky at different times of day, a quiet nod to new horizons and the sense of connection at the heart of the rebrand.
